Props Everywhere!

For this blog post I will be talking about the props I have made, why I made a certain way and how they're being used. Props are one of the main things you come across in any game you play, without them the environments would likely seem quite empty.

I have made a variety of props:

  • 2 fence types, each with 4 variants including a broken version
  • 6 versions of a cube crate
  • 2 versions of a rectangular crate
  • A long and a short log pile with attached or detached holders
  • 2 types of baskets
  • 2 versions of pottery vases
  • A round and a rectangular hay bale
  • A straight and a corner turn minecart track
  • A minecart
  • A minecart stopper
  • A Anvil
  • A furnace
  • A Planter
  • A Ladder
  • A Bucket
  • A Barrel
  • A Broom
  • A tool rack

I made the models with a low poly look in mind. Not many of the objects have extrusions to keep the flat low resolution projected texture look to it in mind. For objects like the hay bale and crates they were UV'd in a way to use a trim sheet making them look simple but actually being more complex.

The props are used to fill in the environments and make them more alive and lived in. There are props for each environment we have, some for the village hub, some for the cave, and some for the farm.

There are some props that are used in more than one of the levels, such as the minecart tracks being used in the cave to lead the player through to the boss room and also in the village to lead to and identify where the cave is.
