Bug Hunting

We've talked about the bugs we made, now we will talk about the kinds you may find in a game. I will talk about why finding bugs/issues can be important and ways to find them by also mentioning the kinds we have encountered in our game's development.

Finding bugs can be quiet important for a variety of reasons. One would be to be able keep the player immersed in the game world. Another would be because they could be problematic at a variety of degrees, from something little that may just be annoying to something that may become detrimental to how the game works.

One way to find bugs may be from just playing through a game normally by talking and doing the quests,  which led us to find some bugs at a point such as:

  • There were times when talking to NPCs where the text would be gittery and would go away too fast

  • There was a time where after completing a quest and interacting with the quest board again would restart the quest

  • There was a time where there were quest items that were invisible

Another way to find bugs is by exploring or purposefully looking for them thrpugh messing with collisions and such, which led us to find some such as:

  • There was a point where you could use objects like the ladder to get on the roof when you aren't supposed to.

  • There was also a bug where you could get on top of and slightly control movements of NPCs like the villagers and boss snail.

  • There was a time where there was a gap in the fence which allowed you to get to the back area and using the collisions of the plane trees it was possible to get on top of the cliff egdes of the vilage.

Now that you know of some ways to find some bugs, perhaps you can go and try finding some yourself and let the devs of the games you find them in know, good luck!
